Dec 3rd Sub Day

 Physics 20.

Here are two sample calculation questions.

1.  The hard disk drive in a computer spins at a rate of 7.20 E3 RPMs. If the disk has a radius of 8.26cm, what is the speed of the outer edge of the disk?

2. A 15.0 g solution in a test tube is placed in a centrifuge that spins at a rate of 2.50 EHz .  What is the centripetal force exerted on the solution if the radius of the circular motion is 12.0 cm?

A cell is like....

"A cell is a ____________"  This will be your main metaphor in a slideshow that you will write.  For each cell part or organelle, you will pick another metaphor that fits within the main metaphor and you will explain why you have chosen it.    For example, If a Cell is a City (that is the main metaphor) then the Nucleus is City Hall because it controls everything that happens in the City.

You may also use comparisons like a cell is like a factory, or a cell is like an office building, or a cell is like a school.

Regardless of what analogy you use, you need to pick one and come up with a theme, using all 7 different cell parts or organelles.

Cell membrane - outside

Cell Wall – strength and structure

Cytoplasm – what takes up the most space

Nucleus – the brain

Chloroplast – the fuel

Mitochondria – the engine

Vacuoles – storage

(Bonus for using more than these!)  If you search the internet for cell parts or organelles, you can find several more that are taught in higher level sciences.

Requirements

All 7 parts

Cell membrane, Cell Wall, Cytoplasm, Nucleus, Chloroplast, Mitochondria, Vacuoles

A simile for each the ____ is like the ______ because

A valid comparison should be included in the description

A separate slide for each part

The slide should be easy to read and

Each slide should have a picture related to the comparison

Include a visual to go along with your comparison

The slide should be free of errors.

The text should not have spelling errors, the picture should not be distorted.

Oct 18th - Sick Day

Sorry for being sick again.  Here are some helpful links for your Ecological Footprint assignment.

1.  What is your Ecological Footprint?

2.  Here is a video that walks through how you calculate your footprint.

To complete the footprint, follow this link.  Once done, you will need to click on see details to get the size.  Write down the hectare of your footprint. (you can also write down the number of Earths required as well.)

3.  Now that you have finished that, let's compare you to people in other countries.  Click on this link to see the size of other countries.  You will need to figure out the top 5 and bottom 5 countries.

4.  On the next page, what are a few things you could do to reduce your footprint?  Write them down in your booket.
