Math 10C: Week 15 - Linear Systems, Substitution, Elimination, Chapter 6 Exam

This week we are: Working on our understanding of Linear Systems, two linear equations that have a common point of intercept

I will: solve for linear systems using graphical analysis
I willsolve for linear systems using the substitution method
I willsolve for linear systems using the elimination method
I willdefine linear systems as solvable, unsolvable and infinite solutions
I willdetermine which method works best for me.

I can: graph 2 linear equations and find the point of intercept
I can: substitute and equation for x or y and solve for the other unknown
I can: eliminate a variable by multiplying an equation or two equations by a common factor
I can: determine how many solutions exist when looking at two linear equations, either by assessing the existing equation or by modifying it.

1.  Formative Assessment 6.1 Graphical Analysis of Linear Systems
2.  We will go over how to do substitution of linear systems.  We will go over two methods, substitution with brackets or equaling two equations to each other.
3.  Students will demonstrate their understanding using the simple examples and then move on to the more advanced sheet.
4.  Students will have time to work on practice worksheets.

2.  We will go over how to do elimination of linear systems.  We will go over simple examples and then expand on to questions with

1.  Formative Assessment 6.3 Elimination Analysis of Linear Systems
2.  We will review all the forms for solving linear systems.  We will go over an example and solve using all 3 of the methods.
3.  Practice sheet for students to apply any technique of choice.  Collect data on the method of preference.

1.  Go over the 3 possibilities for linear systems [no solutions, one solution, infinite solution]
2.  Students can work on practice questions 
3.  Review assignment is available for any student who wants it early.  They can choose to write their exam early or watch the movie on friday.

Math.10C: Week 3 - Volume & Quiz

This week we are: Working on our understanding of Volume and Shapes

I will: determine the volume of 3D shapes
I will: solve for a variable from the volume
I will: complete Pythagoras when required before solving for volume.

I can: calculate the volume of pyramids, cones, prisms and spheres
I can: calculate and missing variable from the above if given the volume
I can: determine when pythagoras is required or diameter needs to be converted to radius.


Monday

1.  Today we will complete our formative assessment on Volume and review the results.

Tuesday

1.  We will work on a review assignment to prepare for our quiz tomorrow.
2.  I will go over students formative assessments to prepare them for the quiz.

Wednesday

1.  We will have a summative assessment on conversions, surface area and volume.
2.  If time is available, we will introduce Trigonometry.

Thursday
1.  We will introduce Trigonometry and the labeling of a right angle triangle.
